Who We Are:
While our name may be new to Austin, we aren’t new to tutoring. Thinking Caps was formed in New York City in 2003 to help elementary, middle, and high school students acquire the fundamental skills and confidence they need to succeed in their academic careers. Throughout the years we have developed our curriculum to meet the demands of an ever-growing population of diverse learners. Our study skill development course is a great way to instill the fundamentals of organization, time management, and reading comprehension in our early childhood students.
We believe so strongly in the importance of teaching students our study skills program that we have written our own manual for parents, students, and teachers. Available now in bookstores, Tutor in a Book (Adams 2010) shares tips, tricks, and strategies from the Thinking Caps toolbox that will help promote successful learning in your student. For more information check out http://www.amazon.com/Tutor-Book-Better-Grades-1-2-3/dp/1440502145.
Our Philosophy:
At the core of Thinking Caps' teaching philosophy is the belief that, given an optimal learning environment and individualized attention, every student can reach his greatest potential and achieve academic success. Because every student is unique, we make it a priority to understand the student as a whole person so that we can successfully tailor our lesson plans to his or her individual personality and objectives.
We believe in building strong mentoring relationships by matching students with tutors based on personalities, common interests, academic passions and ambitions.
What We Offer:
We offer in-home personalized tutoring to elementary, middle and high school students in the following areas:
- Homework Support
- Study Skills Coaching
- Subject Tutoring (Math, Science, Foreign Language, English, Writing the
College Essay)
- Standardized Test Preparation (TAKS, SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT)
- Enrichment Courses
Our Goal:
Our goal is to build confident and independent learners by instilling in students a strong foundation of study skills. We teach by example to help our students master the basics of organization, time management, reading comprehension, and study skills. Once a solid groundwork of skills has been laid, our students are able to more easily tackle difficult problems in the academic realm and beyond.
We are excited to share our passion for learning with Austin. I would really appreciate the opportunity to meet with your mother's group to explain a little more about what we do and how we can help children in the Austin community. Please let me know if you are available to talk in the coming weeks. I look forward to hearing from you!
